Psychodynamic psychotherapy will help you to think about the feelings you have about yourself – and other people – particularly family, friends and colleagues. It will help you to face issues and causes (often from long ago) which may weigh on you, or unknowingly affect your relationship with yourself and others. It has a strong evidence base.
The process and work is about getting to the root of the issue. You will be encouraged to talk freely and to explore all the parts of you – both the positive and the things with which you would like help and support.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy allows you to learn more about your feelings, behaviours and actions. It can help you understand why you expect to be treated in a certain way and how such expectations impact on your current relationships and your mental health. You will be able to see patterns, work through issues and become more resilient.
Although painful feelings and experiences cannot be avoided, it is possible to try to understand them, and to find more helpful ways of relating to them. Seeking therapy can be a move towards trying to understand yourself more fully and towards trying to take more control over how you live your life. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can help whether you are feeling stuck in a particular area of your life, or utterly overwhelmed and unable to function.
Psychotherapy can contribute to a better relationship with yourself and others.
We will agree on a day and time to meet for an initial consultation which may take up to two sessions. Each session lasts 50 minutes; it is an opportunity for us to explore the reasons that have brought you to therapy and provide you with a sense of how therapy works. If you have concerns or questions about embarking on a course of therapy, this is an opportunity to discuss them with me and there is no obligation to commit at this stage.
Once the consultation sessions are over, we will discuss the best course of treatment for you. If we agree to work together, it is usual for sessions to be at a regular day and time every week and last 50 minutes.
We will agree on a session fee. I accept Aviva insurance. Missed sessions are charged.
I work both in person and online.
It varies. If you are interested in working on a deeper level with struggles that have been around for much of your life, we will work together in an open ended way.
I also offer short-term work of 6-12 sessions if there is a specific issue you would like to work on.
